What Is Regenerative Medicine, and What Does It Treat?

If you’re tired of every month bringing a new twinge, ache, or pain, it’s time to do something about it. Aging and injury can make you feel years older, but regenerative medicine can kick-start the renewal of your body at a cellular level.

At BodyWorks Medical Center in Carol Stream, Illinois, our team uses regenerative medicine to help patients feel healthy, fit, and young. We can speed the healing processes, help patients avoid surgical procedures, and roll back the years for joints and other body tissues by encouraging cellular renewal.

Regenerative medicine hinges on stem cells

Regenerative medicine can work what seems like magic on the human body thanks to regenerative stem cells (RSCs). RSCs are multipotent in nature, and you can find them in every tissue in the body, from brain and blood cells to bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. These cells are known to be one of the key players in cellular regeneration and healing.

Regenerative treatment for joint pain

Regenerative medicine can be used for many different conditions. It’s particularly helpful for patients with damage to joints, ligaments, and tendons, helping to relieve pain and promote healing.

Amniotic allograft serum contains RSCs, hyaluronic acid (which acts as a joint lubricant), and cytokines (which can act as natural anti-inflammatories). All of these are natural substances produced by the human body. Your regenerative medicine specialist will prepare the serum, inject it into your arthritic joint, and you’ll be able to go about your normal activities.

The serum will release growth factors into the injured part of the joint, where they can go to work helping to heal and regenerate your body simply by boosting your natural healing ability. You can start to notice an improvement in pain and stiffness levels within three weeks, and over the next few months, your body will continue to have cellular turnover that will show even more improvement.

You might need more than one session to reap the full benefits of regenerative treatment, especially if your injury is severe or arthritis is advanced. Your BodyWorks medical physician will help create a plan with you during your initial consultation, and follow up with you after each session.

For many patients, amniotic allograft serum injections can mean joint surgery is not needed, or can at least be delayed until much later in life. To find out if you are a good candidate, call BodyWorks Medical Center at 630-326-5714, or book an appointment online.
